Exquisite Codes, Bla-Bla Projektraum, Soldiner Straße 103, 13359 Berlin, Germany
Art-teenth, Court Square Exchange, 211 State Street Bridgeport, CT, 06604, USA
<<Announcement>>
I am delighted to share that I am exhibiting at the inaugural “Art-teenth” show and live celebration of creative freedom on the Juneteenth holiday in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. As well as, the simultaneously running “Exquisite Codes” exhibition in Berlin, Germany. With big thanks to @thisisamyjackson for curating, @shimartnetwork for the opportunity and @hohenthal_und_bergen
In this show SHIM repurposes the exquisite corpse technique to break down barriers to entry in the art world and promote inclusivity. By leveraging the concept of the exquisite corpse to create a collaborative artwork, artists are showcased from all over the world without the need for shipping physical artwork. QR codes are displayed alongside, allowing viewers to scan them and be redirected to the physical work for sale via the online platform Artsy. All of this promotes inclusivity, keeps the cost of showing great artwork to a minimum and reduces our environmental footprint.

HIGHLY COMMENDED
I am delighted to announce that I was recognised as highly commended for The JUST Art Award 2023! Artists were selected based on visual quality of the work, relevance to the theme of Social Justice and how much the award would benefit the artist’s work.
Judges included the founding artist @thisamyjackson, @londonartcritic and @charlieogilvie and the winner for 2023 was @saminaislam.artist
This privilege of being ‘Highly Commended’ by the award Judges brings an involvement in two exhibitions; one in the USA and another in Berlin, Germany- this will be the first time my work has been shown in Berlin. I do appreciate this wonderful generosity- Such a kind gesture.

SLIPPERY
The philosopher Gilles Deleuze and the psychoanalyst Felix Guattari stated Voice Hearers, or those with a diagnoses of ‘Schizophrenia’ are ‘Slippery’ in their book Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia.
LOL, they weren’t joking were they
But, what you must understand, for the Voice Hearing thinker/creative/artist, society wants to fix you into the current ways of thinking. people will try to lock up em up, overdose em, criticise their ideas, strip them of what they hold dear to them. You learn to escape this, the Voice Hearers will learn ways of retaining both their physical and mental freedoms.
Yet, there is a serious side to this in that some struggle to get to grips with; which is in my case, it’s like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, yet, I’m polite, treat people well and so on. However, the ‘Slipperiness’ is trying to get us to think ‘Normally’, the mental hospital can sometimes not be a place of rest, learning and peace, but sometimes a violent environment, with it’s goal being to make us think ‘normally’. There’s more to it, but maybe for another post.

A JAMES PADDOCK IDEA
Way back at the start of lockdown I put in a proposal for the city of culture 2025 bid to project onto the Southampton city walls. So hear it is. I was a little concerned about the surface , but seems to work fine. I would really like to see my concept go large scale, now that really would be celebratory ! I’m hoping they’ll use my ideas for improving arts engagement and education too.

Five to watch.
It’s always nice when an older artwork is mentioned in a new article; thank you axisweb for refocusing on Lost Person, 2018. It’s good to be featured among some great artists dealing with mental health.
